Hi! Welcome to Washington Elementary!  I am an intervention teacher here at Washington Elementary School. My love for learning lead me to become a teacher and my passion for reading lead me to the position I am now in, Reading Intervention.  My mission is to make ALL our students here at Washington Elementary WILD ABOUT READING!

I have been in education for 36 years; 25 years as a teacher with Selma Unified and 11 years as a bilingual aide (Kingsburg High School).  As a classroom and intervention teacher,  I have had the pleasure to work with students from grades K-6th. My twenty-five years in Selma, have consisted of 18 years at Eric White Elementary and 7 years here at Washington.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and a multiple subject /Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) credential from Fresno Pacific University in 1994. As a second grade teacher, I saw first-hand the need for students to develop strong literacy skills, in order to become life-long learners, so I sought to gain more education in this area. In 2002, I completed Reading Recovery training and became a Reading Specialist. In 2004, I earned a master’s degree in Reading/Language Arts from Fresno State University. There is something very exciting about the look on a child’s face when he first realizes he is a reader.

In my free time I enjoy reading, cycling, hiking in the mountains, and spending time with family and friends. I have four grown children and four grandchildren that my husband and I love visiting.
