GOALS AND GUIDELINES OF THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

    Dear Parents:

Our goal for the After School Program is to provide academic and literacy support and safe, constructive alternatives for youth by providing homework time and a variety of enrichment activities. We also  use proper procedures  to ensure maximum funding. The major regulations that are  enforced:

    1. YOUR CHILD MUST ATTEND ALL FIVE DAYS.

      1. TWO ABSENCES/EARLY PICK UPS A WEEK ARE ALLOWED FOR A PARALLEL PROGRAM THAT CAN COUNT AS THE ENRICHMENT COMPONENT (MUSIC LESSONS, CATECHISM, KARATE, ETC.) OR ACADEMIC COMPONENT (TUTORING, SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM, ETC.)

    2. THEY MUST BE SIGNED IN UNTIL 4:30 PM OR IT WILL BE COUNTED AS AN ABSENCE. EXCEPTIONS INCLUDE:

      1. PARALLEL PROGRAMS

      2. FAMILY EMERGENCIES (DEATH, CATASTROPHIC INCIDENTS, BIRTHS, ETC.)

      3.  MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS (ONLY WITH A DOCTOR’S NOTE)

      4. STUDENT ACCIDENTS THAT OCCUR DURING THE PROGRAM (STAFF WILL CALL PARENT)

      5. OTHER CONDITIONS PRESCRIBED BY THE SCHOOL (SAFETY, ETC.)

    3. YOU MUST SIGN YOUR CHILD OUT WITH THE CORRECT TIME EACH DAY.

    4. YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR CHILD ON TIME.

It is important for you and your child to follow the above rules because our grant funding to pay for staff and materials is based on daily attendance. If these guidelines are broken, your child will be dropped from the program after the 5th infraction.  Our After-School Program usually has a year-long waiting list.  To insure that your child stays in our program, please follow the above guidelines.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the above guidelines, please feel free to contact me at the school at (559) 898-6711. I look forward to a wonderful school year and hope to maintain a positive relationship with students, staff, and parents.

Q & A

  • How will reduced Federal funding affect our After School Program?

    Posted by:

The program will still be free but the size of our After School Program will be reduced in half. In the 2018-19 School year we have 2 classes per primary grade level, and 1 grade level and combination classes in the upper grades. This will be reduced to 1 class per grade level at 20 students in each class.

  • Why is my son not finishing his homework during the after school program?

    Posted by:

Depending on the grade level, your son should be allowed 30-45 minutes of homework during the program. According to guildlines, we must also provide daily supper time and other enrichment activites, so students may not be able to complete all of their homework. Parents are ultimately responsible for making sure homework is complete. Feel free to talk to us anytime to find out if your child is maximizing his homework time during the after school program and we'll see what we can do to help!

  • I filled out the application, so my child is in the program?

    Posted by:

No. The application puts your child in the lottery or on a waitlist. You will recieve a notice in your child's backpack and/or a phone call letting you know when to come in and register your child. At the meeting you will fill out emergency forms and be given information regarding rules and guidelines to follow.

  • My children were in the After School Program last year, why are they not in the program this year?

We cannot hold spots from previous years. A new lottery is done every year.
