Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
Over the past several months, our model for education has literally shifted overnight. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in our need to create new systems and structures for providing all students with a quality education, while under challenging and what seems to be ever changing conditions. As we consider the road ahead, we will adapt and adjust to these conditions, to ensure that we are working to meet the needs of each Selma Unified learner.
Our theme this year is “Embracing Our Mission: Reimagined and Redesigned. This means that although we have started the school year in a non-traditional manner, our Mission to educate students to their highest potential has not changed. We have established the following Guiding Principles to provide a foundation to support our decision making, as we consider our current conditions for this school year:
Our guiding principles are at the heart of our commitment to the families of Selma Unified:
Keeping students and staff safe and healthy
Maintaining continuity of instruction
Ensuring access and equity for all students
Communicating with stakeholders (i.e. staff, families, bargaining units, community partners)
Ensuring flexibility to meet the needs and advocate for all students, while maintaining fiscal solvency
We know that there are many adjustments that you are making with regard to Distance Learning, and we applaud your efforts to work with us through these unprecedented times. Please know that we are here to support you in any way possible, as you support your children in learning from the safety of home. We are looking forward to the return of students to our campuses, just as soon as conditions are safe to do so.
As we look to the future, we will positively face the year ahead, by “Embracing our Mission: Reimagined and Redesigned, as we work together through these difficult and challenging times.
