Foggy Day Information

Foggy days are called on a district-wide basis when weather conditions reduce roadway visibility to 200 feet or less. Due to the varied geography of Selma Unified, fog density may differ across the district. While some areas may remain clear, other areas may experience heavy fog. For the safety of all students, the decision to delay bus transportation is made with the district as a whole in mind.

The decision to call a foggy day schedule in Selma Unified is made by 6:30 a.m.

Once a Foggy Day is determined, a ParentSquare notification is immediately sent to all parents and guardians, and an email is sent to all Selma Unified staff notifying them of the foggy day schedule. Local TV Channels 18, 24, 30, and 47 are also notified to broadcast the foggy day announcement. Additionally, the district’s foggy day phone line, 559-898-6530, is updated with the latest information.

Foggy Day Transportation Schedule

  • PLAN A - Buses will arrive 1 hour and 45 minutes later than your child's normal route pickup time in the morning. For example, if your child normally gets picked up at 7:15 a.m., they would get picked up at 9 a.m. on a foggy day.
  • PLAN B - Transportation to school in the mornings is canceled, including field trips. Transportation home from school in the afternoon will be provided.
  • PLAN C - All transportation is canceled for the entire day, including field trips.

Foggy Day School Schedule

  • All school gates will open at 7:30 a.m. for students to arrive or be dropped off by parents/guardians.
  • All school classrooms will open at 8:30 a.m. and staff will be available to students at this time.
  • Classroom instruction will begin at 9:30 a.m.
  • The time between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. will be used for educational support activities such as tutoring, intervention, and enrichment.

In the event that a foggy day occurs on a scheduled minimum day, the minimum day schedule will remain in effect.
