    What you will need to register your child in Selma Unified

    • Proof of Age (Birth Date)

      • Certified copy of Birth Record

      • Statement by the local registrar or county recorder certifying the date of birth

      • Baptism certificate

      • Passport

    • Proof of Residency

      • Property tax payment receipts

      • Rental property contract, lease

      • Utility service contract (no cell phone contracts will be accepted)

      • Pay stubs

      • Voter Registration

      • Official Correspondence from a government agency

      • Declaration of Residency executed by the parent or legal guardian of the student.

    • Current Immunization Record

    For TK and Kindergarten Registration, the following is also required:

    • Physical Examination

    • Dental Check-Up

    *Social Security Information and Immigration/Country of origin will NOT be collected

     

    Transitional Kindergarten (TK) 2023-2024

    To be eligible for TK, a child must be born between 9/2/2018 - 9/1/2019

    Transitional Kindergarten curriculum is age and developmentally appropriate. If your child is displaying advanced skills in academic and social behavior, the educator will be tailor to the students’ needs and engagement.

    Pursuant to EC 48000(c), a child is eligible for TK if the child will have his or her fifth birthday between September 2 and December 2.

    Kindergarten 2023-2024

    To be eligible for Kindergarten, a child must be born on or before 9/1/2017-9/1/2018.

    Consideration of early admission for early enrollment for children turning five after the required date (September 1) is not an option within Selma Unified School District. The district is continuously reviewing state law and our main goal is to ensure your child will receive high quality instruction.

    What is the minimum age for admittance to kindergarten in California? (Updated 22-Jan-2016)

    A child shall be admitted to a kindergarten maintained by the school district at the beginning of a school year, or at a later time in the same year if the child will have his or her fifth birthday on or before September 1 (EC 48000[a]). This applies to kindergarten programs only.

     

    Elementary

    California law requires a child to be six years old on or before September 1 for 2023-2024 school year and each school year thereafter to be eligible for first grade (EC Section 48010). In addition to state law, district employees must take into consideration the following:

    • The academic, social, physical, and emotional readiness required for kindergarten or first grade

    • The rigorous nature of the academic standards

    • The potential harm to a child’s disposition to learn by inappropriate, acceleration, and,

    • Importance of acquiring concepts, skills, and knowledge needed at each stage of a child’s education

    Middle School & High School

    To register for Abraham Lincoln Middle School or Selma High School, please contact the school site to schedule an appointment. Please bring your proof of age, proof of residency, immunization, and contact information for any previous school attended.

    Alternative Education

    Students or Parents/Guardians interested in having their child attend Alternative Education (Opportunity, Continuation, or Independent Studies), must complete an Involuntary Transfer to Alternative Education Application. Applications can be obtain by meeting with a school site administrator.
