Superintendent’s Message 2018-2019
Summer is over, the beach towels have been hung out to dry, and the pool toys have been put away. School shopping is complete, and students know their class assignments. It’s now time to listen for the school bell that will ring, and joyfully (for parents) bring in the 2018-2019 school year. So to students, parents, teachers and staff I say, “Welcome to a New School Year!”
I am pleased to share that Selma Unified continues to be a Triple AAA District of Excellence, where we focus on Academic Achievement, the Arts, and Athletics, all rising together to support the development of well educated, responsible, and respectful students who graduate College and Career Ready. We know that our students are our greatest asset, and we commit to our Mission of, “providing a student centered instructional program, which allows students to reach their highest potential as contributing members of society.”
Last year our students demonstrated outstanding growth in all academic areas. We are extremely proud of the hard work of our students, parents, and teachers in achieving these outcomes. As we actively support developing the whole child, our students demonstrate success and recognition in State and Regional competitions in areas including various Athletics (Football, Basketball, Girls Softball, Boys and Girls Wrestling), Middle and High School Bands and Color Guard, and numerous awards in Academic Decathlon. Our students also received State and Regional awards in various Ag Programs, and many competitions were won by our nationally recognized U.S. Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (MCJROTC).
So as we begin this new school year journey, I look forward to the work that we will do together to recognize the greatness in each student. I invite you to join with us in partnership in any way that is most comfortable for you. Thank you in advance for helping us to create bright futures for the students of Selma Unified.
Dr. Tanya A. Fisher, Superintendent
